Do you let your inner light shine, or are you afraid of being visible? Ways to bring more light into your life. | Glow your inner light this Diwali. | "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". | How To Create Inner Light When Darkness Is All Around? | How to Unleash Your Inner Light?

Diwali or Deepawali is the festival of lights celebrated across India. Deepawali originates from the Sanskrit words deep (lamp) and vali (row). It literally means "row of lights". The festival is celebrated by lighting earthen lamps.

Even though Diwali is mainly considered a Hindu festival, the day marks different events in different communities. Everywhere, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".

In life, we are faced with numerous challenges. We may have illnesses, financial or relationship problems or loss of something important. We may experience some dark patches. But we do not have to be blinded by the darkness.

Challenges are a part of life. Sometimes we let them get the better of us, and find ourselves succumbing to them. However, there is always hope to bring light into the dark spells that come our way. We just have to know where to look for it.

Story of Cave & Sunlight

There was once a cave that lived underground, as most caves do. Since it spent its entire life in darkness, it had never seen any light. One day, a voice talked to the cave, and said, “Come up into the light. Come and enjoy the sunlight.” The cave replied, “I do not know what you mean by light. All I have ever known is darkness.” “Come and see for yourself,” said the voice.

The cave mustered up enough courage and climbed slowly up from the depths of the earth. Suddenly, it reached the top of the earth and was surrounded by magnificent light, the likes of which the cave had never seen in its life.

“This is beautiful,” said the cave.

After enjoying the light for a while, the cave said to the sunlight, “Now it is your turn to come with me and see the darkness.”

“What is darkness?” asked the sunlight.

The cave answered, “Come and see for yourself.”

The sunlight decided to visit the cave’s home. As the sunlight entered the cave, it said, “Now show me your darkness.” But with the sunlight there, there was no darkness to be found.

What this story illustrates is the power of light. Wherever there is light, there can be no darkness. Whenever we feel we are in a dark spell in our life, we need to only tap into the light of our souls. We are light. Our soul is light. Our true nature is light. If we would only identify with our true nature, we would find there is no darkness. If we would also bring our own innate goodness and light into our daily life, we would never be overcome by the darkness of life again.

Each one of us has the light of the soul within us. But we are not aware of it because we identify ourselves with the outer world of darkness and illusion. If we would invert our attention we would discover this illuminating light. Whenever the dark spells of life threaten to bring us down, we could invert, find the light within, and bring it forth into the darkness to dispel it.

Your inner light can be felt, and it can transmute any situation. But most of all, unleashing your inner light feels expansive and deeply fulfilling. Yet, most people dim their light. Because one of our greatest fears is a fear of being visible. Unconsciously, we are all hiding our truest selves to the point that we forget who we truly are.

What Is Your Inner Light?

Our inner light is an expression of our true essence. It’s the subtle energy of your Spirit moving through our being and the light our soul has attained during her soul’s journey. This unique signature can be read like a book. It contains information about the maturity and purity of your soul. Every soul matures through her numerous journeys across time and space. As the soul masters its lessons, her inner radiance shines brighter.

Our inner light carries a uniqueness that can be felt and seen. As we’re cultivating our inner light, it gets brighter and stronger. Our light can increase and interact with the light of other beings. On some level, others can feel your inner light, and they react to it. Before you even speak to anyone, your inner light is already in communion with their light. In a way, it lives a life on its own. Especially when we embrace our life purpose, and as a result, our aura expands.

Similarly, others can feel when you dim your light. Depending on where they’re on their journey, your soul’s radiance might make them feel secure and safe. Or it as well might trigger them because you’re hiding, and not everyone likes it. People naturally gravitate towards the inner glow of other people because it helps them shine more. However, someone else’s inner light can also challenge the parts of you that are still afraid of living in the light. And this leads to projecting own wounds onto others. If this is the case, then it’ll feel empowering and deeply healing to look at the place other people’s light is triggering you.

Our true reality is light and love. When we associate with the temporary illusions of this world, we feel pain. But when we realize that the outer events are but a dream existence, a passing show that is but temporary, we can rise above the pain and disappointment. When we find sadness in life, let us maintain our inner harmony. When we find misfortune, let us count the numerous times we have experienced good fortune.

When we fail, take that as an opportunity to learn from our mistakes and try again. When we find ourselves in darkness, let us close our eyes and focus until we see the light. That light will bring with it peace, joy, and love. It will comfort us and give us the strength to carry on. If we bring that light into our lives, then we too, like the cave, will find that there is no more darkness. If we focus we can experience the light waiting for us within. Let us not be distracted by the darkness of thought, but instead, sit in stillness and wait lovingly for the light within to shine upon us.

Holding to your inner light doesn’t mean you split off from the darkness or pretend it doesn’t exist. This is the novice’s approach to spirituality, which only serves to create an opposition between light and darkness. The novice mistakenly denies his or her own darkness and eventually projects it onto others.

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.” -Dumbledore

Unleash Your Inner Light

The inner light needs our loving care. And it requires of us a safe space where it can be unleashed. When you build a relationship with your inner light, you can nurture it and become more confident in radiating it.

How To Create Inner Light When Darkness Is All Around

  1. Get In Touch With Your Inner Light. Begin by affirming the light within you, which is your ability to bring nourishment, kindness, humour, warmth and wisdom to your life and the lives of others.

  2. The Fear of Being Visible. Make a resolve (Sankalpa) to create light even in routine activities, when preparing your meal, tidying your space, or interacting with others. Avoid being entangled in worry and anxiety by focusing on your creative capacities.

  3. Darkness is a purposeful teacher. Make a list of the lessons you have learned from your experience of darkness and how you overcame the difficulties. Then do a shadow list of the lessons you refuse to learn and perhaps are, therefore, forced to repeat.

  4. Notice the many forms your darkness takes, from neglecting what you know is good for you, to the outright denial of your admirable talents and traits. For example, examine your attitudes toward money, power, pain etc.

  5. If your light has dimmed in recent times, if you feel world-weary, reach out to other light-bearers. Whether you create or follow the light doesn’t matter. What matters is that you keep the connection alive with consistent intention and a pure heart.

"Inner light comes from illuminating your darkness, not by running from it."

Practice, Practice, and Practice

Once you’ve healed soul wounds related to your fear of being visible and standing in your power, it’s time to practice. Shining your inner light isn’t about a quick fix. Letting your light out is something that needs to be practised. When we develop a mindset of seeing every situation as an opportunity for growth, we’re on a journey to embody our souls and express our light.

In some situations, our inner glow comes out effortlessly. Yet, at other times, we have to become mindful of how much we let our light out. You can turn it on and off or dim your light as needed. And you can practice standing in your light when you’re with people on other frequencies or when having a family reunion. Likewise, you can practice holding the frequency of your inner light when you have a full to-do list and let your light guide you instead of your stress. The options to practice are endless. Radiating your inner light is a path of conscious embodiment.

This Diwali illuminates your life with lights and colors. Let each Diya you light bring a glow of happiness on your face and enlighten your soul & lead you onto the road of growth and prosperity.

Let the flame of the candles and the earthen lamp cleanse your heart, mind, and soul.

Thereby enriching your connection with the almighty.

Wish you a joyful celebration of the festival.

Happy Diwali.
