Growing up, my summers were a magical escape to our native village in Rajasthan, where time seemed to slow down and the world felt endlessly enchanting. The village, with its rustic charm and simplicity, was a place where I experienced life in its purest form. Our home, a traditional mud house, was a cozy haven that held the warmth of generations. It was in this humble abode that my imagination first took flight.
Every night, we would spread out cots under the vast, star-studded sky. The cool night breeze, the soft glow of the moon, and the twinkling constellations above created a dreamy atmosphere. It was here, beneath the blanket of stars, that our elders would weave tales of ancient legends and folklore. These stories, rich with magic and mystery, transported me to worlds beyond our village. The stories of brave heroes, cunning tricksters, and wise sages sparked my curiosity and fueled my imagination.
Daytime in the village was equally magical. We children spent our days crafting handmade dolls and toys from the soil, creating our own little worlds. The earth beneath our feet was a playground, and we sculpted figures and animals with our hands, bringing them to life with our imagination. These simple yet profound experiences were more than just play; they were my first lessons in creation and storytelling. The tactile sensation of moulding clay and soil stayed with me, becoming a foundational element in my artistic journey.
One of my most cherished memories is of eating watermelon during the hot summer days. The sun would blaze down, but the sweet, refreshing taste of watermelon provided a delightful respite. I remember the juice dripping down our arms, a sticky but satisfying reminder of the simple pleasures of life. These moments, filled with joy and laughter, taught me to appreciate the beauty in everyday experiences.
As I grew older, my love for animals, birds, and nature blossomed. The village, with its lush fields and vibrant wildlife, was a constant source of wonder. I often found myself daydreaming about life beneath the ocean, imagining a world teeming with colorful fish and mysterious creatures. The idea of an underwater realm, hidden from the human eye, fascinated me. This fascination later became a recurring theme in my art, as I began to explore the concept of hidden worlds and the beauty of the unseen.
My artistic journey took another turn when I was introduced to the world of movies. As a child, I was captivated by the old Disney movies from the 2000s. The vibrant animation, compelling characters, and timeless stories left a lasting impression on me. Each film was a portal to a new adventure, filled with magic and wonder. Later, I discovered the enchanting works of Studio Ghibli, including Ponyo, Arrietty, and Spirited Away. These films, with their intricate storytelling and breathtaking visuals, further ignited my creativity. My art is a jewellery box from the rich and varied pearls and stones of my life experiences, each piece a reflection of the diverse influences that have shaped me. It is a harmonious blend of fairy tales, legends, childhood memories, and an enduring love for antiques and all things nostalgic. Each of these elements brings a unique flavor to my work, creating a distinctive and magical visual language that speaks to the viewer's heart.
