How Imagination, Animation and Childhood Memories Shape My Paintings

Dear Reader,

Welcome to a journey through my artistic mind, where imagination knows no bounds and every shade tells a story. As an artist, my work is deeply rooted in the memories and experiences that have shaped me. Today, I want to share a part of that journey with you, taking you back to my childhood, where the seeds of my creativity were first planted. From the magical moments of playing with Barbies to the enchanting worlds of animated films, every step of my journey has contributed to the artist I am today.

A Journey Through Imagination: How Childhood Memories Shape My Paintings

How My Childhood Shaped My Paintings and Creativity

As an artist, I often find myself reflecting on the moments that have shaped my creative journey. Growing up in the 90s, I have vivid memories of my childhood, filled with magical experiences and imaginative play. Born in 1993, I recall the days when my father would bring home CDs and cassettes. We would gather around the CD player to watch movies or sit by the tape recorder, enjoying the music. These moments, simple yet profound, became the foundation of my imaginative world. As you read further you will come to know childhood memories shape my paintings.

Childhood Memories and the Birth of Imagination

From a young age, I was a child who loved to immerse myself in my own world of imagination. My mother would often say that I was a kid who loved to talk to myself. I remember that often found it hard to open up about my feelings. Whenever someone would ask me to share my thoughts, I sometimes ended up in tears, unable to express the emotional rollercoaster of feelings within me. Yet, deep inside, I was content and fulfilled in my beautiful, magical world.

I found comfort and joy in playing with Barbies and kitchen sets. But my playtime was never simple. I would meticulously arrange my dollhouse, decorating it with makeshift expensive items, creating a lavish imaginary world for my imaginary rich Barbie house. I never had a Barbie House of my own; a friend from my neighbourhood had one, and sometimes we played together. However, I found immense joy in playing with my setups, where I could imagine anything and everything magical. Growing up during the Harry Potter era only fueled my imagination further, making my world even more enchanting.

The Influence of Family

My elder sister played a significant role in this imaginative play. She made a few beautiful and elegant dresses for my Barbie, which I cherished more than the original fancy clothes that came with the doll. These childhood memories and experiences have deeply influenced my artistic journey. They taught me the value of creativity, resourcefulness, and the joy of making something out of nothing.

Discovering Animated and Fantasy Worlds

Fast forward to 2014, when I started exploring the internet more, I fell in love with animated and fantasy movies. Classics like Finding Nemo, Luca, and Studio Ghibli movies, especially Arrietty and Ponyo, had a profound impact on my mind. I often found myself imagining these beautiful worlds, filled with flowers and books. These films transported me to different realms and sparked my creativity in ways I had never imagined.

However, it was only a year ago that I finally had a room of my own. Until then, I shared a small flat with my parents and siblings and had no personal space to decorate or call my own. This new personal space became a canvas for my imagination. I could finally bring to life all the dreams and ideas that had been swirling in my mind for years.

A Setback Turned into a Creative Breakthrough

Last year, on Christmas Day, I experienced a significant setback. While recording a room cleaning vlog, my phone fell off the tripod and broke. It was my primary tool for recording and connecting with my audience. Despite having a computer to access Instagram and YouTube, I felt incredibly lonely and saddened by this loss. I struggled to sleep that night, but my mind had other plans for me.

With 99% less distraction from social media and constant notifications, I found time to focus on myself and my art. I revisited my favourite animated movies, and in those sleepless nights, my imagination took flight. I envisioned a Harry Potter castle, but with a twist - what if it was underground and sparkling like the castle in Frozen, with vibrant colors? I imagined Nemo and his friends on an adventure, discovering this magical underground castle.

Channeling Imagination into Art

Mixing and matching these ideas, I channelled my thoughts into my paintings. These fantastical visions are now my number one inspiration as an artist. Each stroke of my brush is a reflection of my childhood dreams and the magical worlds I once created in my mind.

Art has always been a way for me to express what words cannot. It allows me to bring my imaginary worlds to life and share them with others. Through my art, I invite you to step into my world, to experience the magic and wonder that has been a part of my life since childhood.

Embracing the Power of Imagination

Imagination is a powerful tool. It allows us to see the world not just as it is, but as it could be. As children, our imaginations are boundless, and we create entire worlds within our minds. As we grow older, it is important to hold onto that sense of wonder and creativity.

My journey as an artist is proof of the power of imagination. From the days of playing with the imaginary rich life of Barbies to creating intricate paintings inspired by animated films, my imagination has been my greatest asset. It has allowed me to see beyond the ordinary and to create art that resonates with people.

Looking Ahead

As I continue on this artistic journey, I am excited to see where my imagination will take me next. There are countless worlds yet to be explored and stories yet to be told. I am grateful for the support of my audience and for the opportunity to share my art with you.
